Brent Cross Town campus
As part of the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme, we are pleased to announce that Sheffield Hallam University will, in future, open its first satellite campus in Barnet.
Brent Cross Town is the £8bn development at the heart of the regeneration scheme, which we are delivering in partnership with Related Argent. Sheffield Hallam University was selected to become the town’s future higher education partner because of its strong emphasis on health and wellbeing and will bring long-term economic and social benefits to the borough.
The Brent Cross Town campus is scheduled to open from 2025/26, with the aim of delivering courses to 5,000 students by 2030. As well focus its degree-courses here on the subject areas its best known for, the University will also conduct extensive local research to tailor its courses to meet the needs of those living in the area. It will also complement our broader higher education offer including that of Middlesex University who continue to play an important role in Barnet.
Sheffield Hallam will also be the first occupier to join a 3 million square foot commercial area, which will be built next to the new Brent Cross West station and bring around 25,000 new jobs to the area.
The university campus building design has a low-carbon hybrid timber and concrete structure and will use renewable energy from Brent Cross Town’s sitewide district heating network, which will provide the largest installation of heat pumps in the UK – all part of Brent Cross Town’s pledged to be net zero carbon by 2030.
Leader of Barnet Council, Councillor Barry Rawlings said: “We welcome this opportunity for residents to access first class higher education at Brent Cross Town with an award-winning, nationally recognised university that has a strong record of supporting its local community. This is part of our vision, as a dynamic and innovative borough, to put communities at the heart of the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme.”
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, added: “I am delighted that Sheffield Hallam University will be opening its first satellite campus in Brent Cross Town, bringing a world-class educational hub, employment opportunities and new housing to the area.
“This partnership between Sheffield Hallam University, Brent Cross Town and other partners demonstrates what can be achieved when different sectors come together to invest into London’s future and help to build a better, more sustainable and more prosperous city for everyone.”
Across the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme the 4.5-acre Claremont Park opened in June and five new retailers have opened in the area, including Happy Faze Pizza, Cricklewood Coffee Roasters and Karma Bakery on Claremont Way, and Kosher Outlet on Tilling Road, which all place an emphasis on supporting local businesses.
