The garden waste collection service will become chargeable from 6 April costing £70 per year for one bin, and £50 for each additional bin per year. Signing up will enable residents with garden waste to receive this service.
Sign up for Barnet's new fortnightly garden waste collection service
Councillor Dean Cohen, Chair of the Barnet Council Environment Committee, said: “A charge for garden waste collections will help us retain weekly recycling and refuse collections, whilst also investing in services such as street cleansing.”
Residents will shortly receive a leaflet explaining how to sign up and pay for their yearly subscription for the garden waste service, which will be for approximately 23 collections a year.
Sign up by 20 March to ensure your first collection after the new service starts on April 6.
Those who sign up will receive a unique sticker by post that should be applied to the lid of their garden waste bin, this will allow collection crews to identify households who have signed up to the service. From 6 April, the council will only empty green bins displaying a garden waste bin sticker.
Residents can sign up and pay by calling 0208 359 4600 (option 1) or signing up online at www.barnet.gov.uk/gardenwaste and requesting a call back to make payment.
The proposal to charge for garden waste collections was agreed by the Environment Committee on 20 January.
