Residents and businesses are being asked for their views on how Barnet will take shape over the next 15 years with the guidance of a new ‘Local Plan’.
Draft Local Plan 2021-2036
Consultation is underway to help develop the document which will play a key role in helping to manage growth and change in Barnet between 2021 and 2036.
The consultation will run until 9 August.
Between now and 2036 the aim is for more than 36,000 new homes across the borough, new office space, a new park town at Brent Cross and a range of leisure and sports facilities.
If adopted, this plan will replace the existing 2012 Local Plan and will provide the main basis upon which future planning applications will be determined.
It will help retain the qualities which make Barnet attractive, while also considering the needs of future generations, including ensuring that growth happens in the right place and at the right time.
The document sets out the council’s vision and objectives for delivering good growth and includes 52 strategic policies and 65 sites for possible development.
Council Leader, Councillor Dan Thomas, said: “It is extremely important that residents give us their views and play a part in shaping a very important document which will in turn influence growth and change in our borough over the coming years.
“Barnet remains a very popular and family friendly place to live, with excellent schools, town centres and green spaces.
“That popularity means the borough will continue to grow, and it is crucial that we have policies in place which will protect and enhance what we have, and deliver the infrastructure needed to make sure the borough remains a desirable place in which to live.
“I would like to encourage as many people as possible to take the time and give us their views.”
