Yellow weather warning - Ice
Following the heavy snow from Sunday evening, 11 December, some services have been affected across the council.
Gritting took place over the weekend and throughout the night and all main roads are flowing. Gritting teams have now moved onto secondary roads and town centres. Footway gritting is being undertaken, but with freezing temperatures expected to continue, we are advising that everyone takes extra care when making journeys.
Service status:
Recycling and waste collections Due to the continuing challenging weather conditions, a number of recycling and refuse collections have not been completed this week as scheduled.
In order to focus on ensuring refuse collections can be completed as far as possible, we will prioritise refuse collections on Thursday and Friday and therefore there will be no recycling collections on these days.
We will complete any outstanding collections as soon as possible, and where this is not possible during this week we will collect next week. Please leave your bins out for collection. We apologise for any disruption or inconvenience caused.
The Community Skip locations for today (Thursday) remain stood down.

Gritting the roads:
- Our fleet of 11 gritters were out gritting roads yesterday afternoon and evening, as well as the early hours of this morning.
- Our teams will be continuing to grit and clear roads and pavements today.
- We prioritise key routes within the Barnet network for our gritting activities into Priority One and Priority Two routes.
- Priority One roads are pre-treated with salt/grit when snow, ice or frost may form.
- Priority Two carriageways and Priority One footways are normally post–treated, subject to resources being available, to deal with snowfall or continued icy conditions.
- More information about our Winter Service can be found online.
