Barnet Council has launched a new campaign today (16 June) urging all young people who are eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine so that we can all get back to the things that we enjoy doing.
Anca has had the vaccine, will you?
Four young Barnet residents tell us what they are looking forward to doing once they have had the vaccine. They talk about looking forward to travelling, visiting indoor venues safely, or meeting up with friends and families without worrying.
The campaign aims to reassure people of all ages that the vaccine is safe, effective, and the key way out of the pandemic and to highlight that getting vaccinated brings everyone one step closer to being able to do the things they love.
Dr Tamara Djuretic, Director of Public Health in Barnet, said:
"It is very important for us all to get the COVID-19 vaccine to reduce the rate of severe illness and death from the virus, especially in light of the spread of the Delta variant, which is spreading rapidly.
"If you are eligible to get the jab, please do so and make sure you also book a second dose appointment to be fully protected against the virus. You may experience mild side-effects for 24-48 hours such as a headache, fever or sore arm. It is recommended to take paracetamol to relieve effects of the vaccine. Continue to follow the national guidelines and the Hands Face Space Fresh Air rules even after you have had the vaccine."
Barnet residents can now get their vaccine at Saracens’ StoneX stadium mass vaccination centre, where world champion Usain Bolt famously warmed up on the Olympic Bar running track for the 2012 Olympics.
To check if you are in one of the eligible groups and to book your COVID-19 vaccine appointment, call 119 or visit www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/
If you are not yet eligible to get vaccinated, please wait for your invitation and continue to share information about the jab from credible sources such as the NHS or council websites.
