While need is increasing across Barnet due to crisis, donations have been badly hit, meaning that local Barnet charities need the support of Barnet residents more than ever.

The 2.6 Challenge is a national initiative to support charities on Sunday 26th April, the day the London Marathon would have taken place and raised millions of pounds for UK charities.

The Challenge tasks everyone to become ‘Home Heroes’ by thinking of an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 that suits their skills and complete it on Sunday 26 April.

The Barnet Together Partnership is asking people across Barnet to join the Challenge to support the local charities that need it most. Funds raised will go towards the running of local foodbanks, purchasing important items such as personal protective equipment to keep volunteers safe, as well as other vital local resources and services to help people at this time.

Barnet Together is a partnership between Young Barnet Foundation, Volunteering Barnet and Inclusion Barnet, and they work together to support Barnet charities.  Inclusion Barnet have set up a fundraising page at https://twopointsixchallenge.justgiving.com/fundraise on behalf of the partnership and will be donating every penny raised to the Barnet Community Response Fund.

Caroline Collier, CEO of Inclusion Barnet said:  “The 2.6 challenge is a flexible and fun way of raising money during lockdown.  You do not need to be a runner to take part; anything goes as long as there is a 26 or 2.6 in there somewhere.  You could run 2.6 kilometres, complete 26-star jumps, or do a workout in 26 minutes.  Get your family and friends to sponsor you, and you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that every penny raised helps a worthy cause here in Barnet.”

Janet Mathewson, CEO of Young Barnet Foundation said: “This is a tough time for everyone, but for some more than most. Together, we are all working hard to ensure that we do everything we can to support the most vulnerable residents of Barnet, supporting our foodbanks and wider services but we need your help! We’re so grateful for everyone who can get involved – and we ‘re challenging everyone from the Mayor of Barnet to our own staff to get involved to raise funds for good causes.”

If you would like be a Home Hero for your local community this Sunday, head online, create your own fundraising page and select to support ‘Inclusion Barnet’.
