Recycling and refuse collection days will change during the week commencing 26 December to work around the Christmas and New Year bank holidays.
Calendar
Details of revised dates can be found at www.barnet.gov.uk/christmasbincollections. Blue recycling bin and black refuse bin collections will resume from the week commencing 2 January 2023 on residents’ normal collection day.
Over the festive period, it’s common for extra waste to be produced. For some useful ideas and tips to help manage excess waste over Christmas residents can visit www.barnet.gov.uk/christmasbincollections and tips will be posted on the council’s social media channels throughout the month.
Garden waste collections are currently paused for the winter period over six weeks. Residents who have signed up to the service can check their next collection date in the new year from 14 December at www.barnet.gov.uk/bins. Subscribers will also be emailed a reminder before collections resume in the new year.
Councillor Alan Schneiderman, Chair of the Barnet Council Environment and Climate Change Committee, said: “We wish everyone a merry Christmas – but please recycle right this festive period. Most packaging can be recycled as long as it’s clean and dry. You can recycle cardboard, paper, glass and cans. You can also recycle plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays. Remember: wrapping paper with glitter or foil on it can’t be recycled. This year, why not try reusable and recyclable alternatives instead. Please do your bit for the environment and help us tackle the climate emergency – not just at Christmas, but all year round.”
Real Christmas trees will be collected in January. If residents would like their real Christmas tree to be collected, they must ensure it has all decorations and tree lights removed, is cut in half and put at the boundary of their property by 13 January for collection over one of the two weekends that follow.
