Warm Bank
Barnet Council has launched its Warm Spaces scheme and is appealing to local organisations and businesses that have free space to sign up to the borough-wide initiative and help people stay warm through winter.
Libraries across the borough are already welcoming residents, and the scheme aims to create spaces people can use and visit wherever they are in the borough.
Barnet Council Leader, Cllr Barry Rawlings, said: “Warm spaces are a community-led initiative where local business community, faith and social enterprise organisations can open their doors and provide welcoming spaces for residents to stay warm.
“As well as keeping out the cold, it’s a good way to help people avoid loneliness and involve them with their community.
“That’s why we’re calling on business, community, faith and social enterprise organisations to sign up to the scheme and help out over the winter months.”
To support the scheme, the council has launched two grants that not-for-profit groups can apply for. The funding is to open spaces, provide free activities and partner with local businesses to support and keep residents warm through the winter.
