Barnet will compete against London’s other boroughs for the ‘best float’ competition during the London New Year’s Day Parade (LNYDP) – and you can help us win!
2019 - a year of memories
The themes of the event in 2020 are ‘health and wellbeing’ and ‘loving London life’. You can watch it from 12noon on Wednesday 1 January on London Live, via Facebook and Twitter @lnydp, or at lnydp.com. You can vote for Barnet to win the People’s Choice award in the London Borough category via the LNYDP’s Facebook and Twitter channels, and via its website. The poll will run from 12noon on New Year’s Day until the end of the parade.
The theme of our float will be ‘Live Your Best Life’, focusing on the importance of mental health and living in the moment to make life more enjoyable. Big Ben will be part of our display as an iconic London landmark to represent time. Living in the present – not the past or the future, but now, can improve mental health, particularly through techniques like mindfulness. Our display will also feature a rainbow to celebrate the diversity of our borough.
A borough-wide effort is being put into making Barnet’s float be the best it can possibly be, with input from many different groups sharing their many different talents.
These include:
- The Saracens, and the Saracens Sport Foundation
- The Bull Theatre, who have built the float
- Phil Stannard Associates for the sound system
- Ryan Mills from Brookwell Building Services
- Cherry Lodge Cancer Care for getting us the float from Artel Scaffolding
- The London Borough of Barnet's Positive Activities co-ordinator - Laura Davitt
- The Susi Earnshaw Theatre School
- The Barnet Guild of Artists
- Fixation Theatre Children's Youth Group
- Fit Club Studios team
- Elders Dance Companies
- Incognito Theatre Company
- Iheart
- Middlesex University
The Worshipful Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Caroline Stock, said: “Putting together the float, we have involved organisations and people from all over the borough. Barnet has really come together as a team to put make this float and the actual entry. Individuals from across the borough of all ages have got behind the idea of healthy living. They have been dancing, singing and moving their way into a healthier life. We all need to appreciate what is around us, so we can live our best lives.”
