We use the information provided to us to process service requests, investigate concerns and complaints about our services, help identify areas of the borough that need attention, support events and enhance the personalisation of services for individual residents or households.

We collect information on specific customers or households where applicable so we can provide special services. These include assisted collections and chargeable services such as commercial and garden waste bin collections, the provision of bins and bulky waste collections.

The information provided helps to capture service information related to individual households, for example their eligibility to receive certain services and the services they have signed up to use. This will ensure we can provide useful updates to customers based on the services they receive. We also use information to market and promote our commercial services.

Personal information collected

  • Name
  • Address & contact details
  • DOB
  • Financial information for paid for services
  • Property information, including bin capacity and residents
  • Health information, limited information is requested to identify whether a resident meets the criteria for assisted collections
  • Information from the Local Authority from where you live and previously lived
  • Images in photographs or film/CCTV, many of our vehicles have CCTV for safety purposes
  • Receipt of council tax support to assess whether you meet criteria for some services or discounts

How long we keep your information

The following outlines how long we keep information for, depending on the service. These time periods are all common practice:

Collection of waste:

  • the process of arranging the collection or transportation of household waste is held for 5 years
  • the process of arranging the collection or transportation of controlled waste is held for 10 years

Disposal of waste:

  • the summary management of sites used for the disposal of waste within the local authority is held permanently
  • the process of the short-term storage of household waste is held for 10 years
  • the process involved in managing the use, type and amount of waste to be disposed at a specific site is held permanently

Health information for assisted collections is destroyed once a decision is made about whether a resident meets the criteria for receiving the service.
