Safeguarding - Independent Review privacy notice

A Child Protection Case Conference (CPCC) is a meeting held about a child or children. The government says that a conference must be called when the council is worried that a child may be at risk of significant harm because of abuse or neglect. Where this is the case, we must, by law, intervene to work with families to ensure the child is protected.

This service assesses whether child protection plans are necessary and assigns a named Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) for each child. The IRO and the team monitor the child’s case. We have specific legal duties under legislation, as well as an overarching duty of care toward children within our borough.

The purpose of the conference is to share information about your child or children, decide if they are suffering or at risk of suffering significant harm and if they require a Child Protection Plan to safeguard and promote their welfare. Most children who need a protection plan do so for less than two years and stay living with their family during this time. If your child requires a protection plan a social worker will aim to work with you and the other professional involved to keep your child safe and protected.
