Supporting Golders Green
In line with Barnet’s Corporate Plan 2024 and Growth Strategy 2030, the Council is fully committed to supporting Golders Green to thrive as a place for all to live, work, and enjoy.
Since 2017, we have worked with key partners, residents, community organisations, and local businesses in Golders Green to look at how we can best support the town centre to grow and flourish
As a result, in 2020, the council adopted the Golders Green Town Centre Strategy, which identifies place-specific opportunities for improvement and regeneration, as well as local treasures that need to be supported and celebrated.
What have we done to date
- Launched a shop local campaign called Discover Barnet, championing local businesses across the borough, including Golders Green, to encourage residents to rediscover their high street and shop safely.
- Hosted the Town Centre Heroes Exhibition which celebrates a number of local people within Golders Green Town Centre who have gone above and beyond to serve their community.
What we are doing now
Using the Town Centre Strategy as the basis, the council is starting the delivery of a series of public space improvements within Golders Green, to transform the town centre into an attractive area for people to live, work and visit.
In 2022 Jan Kattein Architects and We Made That were appointed to support the development of these projects and create multiple opportunities for the local community to get involved and help shape the town centre.
To support and inform the development of proposed larger-scale public realm improvements outlined in the Strategy, over the next year, we will work with the local community to develop and deliver action plans for way-finding and cultural activation to make Golders Green a more accessible, active and vibrant place.
The council is also supporting the establishment of a new Town Team. This independent group of residents, business owners and representatives of organisations will be able to support the council with project engagement and co-develop a programme of community events for Golders Green bringing activity to the high street and helping drive footfall to support the town centre to thrive.
