Tenancy deposit scheme

There are three tenancy deposit schemes:

• Tenancy Deposit Scheme, an insurance-backed scheme.
• Mydeposits, an insurance-backed scheme.
• Deposit Protection Service, a custodial scheme.

If your landlord does not protect your deposit under one of these schemes, they could be liable to pay back three times the cost of the deposit.

A court may decide that you won’t have to leave the property when the tenancy ends if your landlord hasn’t used a tenancy deposit scheme when they should have.
