About the Warm Spaces scheme
Warm Spaces is a community-led initiative.
It's been created to help people who are struggling to keep warm this winter, due to the cost of living crisis.
Businesses, community, faith or social enterprise organisations can join the scheme by providing a warm and welcoming space for residents to engage with people in their community.
What your organisation will need to join
To sign up your organisation to the scheme, you should have current and up to date:
- public liability insurance
- responsible person for health and safety and building management
- appropriate risk assessment
- safeguarding polices
- food and hygiene certificate (if applicable)
We ask that organisations have this in place to keep people safe and protect residents who are vulnerable to flu and COVID-19
Local businesses and community groups
If you have a space available just simply making it available to residents to stay warm and stay connected with others can make a huge difference on someone's wellbeing.
There are a number of ways cafes and retail stores can also help by:
- providing a space for remote workers
- using your space as a creative or digital nomad hub for micro-businesses
- partnering with a foodbank to deliver ready-made meals
- providing a drop off point for warm clothes and food donations for a foodbank in your area
- joining our Healthier Highstreets programme
Register your interest for the Warm Spaces scheme

Ideas on how to use your warm space
We encourage you to bring your spaces to life with activities, arts and even some laughing meditation. Other ideas include hosting:
- free art therapy or laughing meditation activities
- digital and skills workshops
- benefits and employment outreach by partnering with BOOST
- local art and crafts exhibitions classes or poetry sessions
- community cooking and culinary classes on a budget
- study, play and learning groups
- book club and discussion groups
